Polaris volunteers at Blackfriars Settlement

Since 2019, Polaris has been a keen supporter of Blackfriars Settlement, a local charity that aims to create and provide community services and support to those that need them most. Prior to the pandemic, Polaris made and served meals to members of Blackfriars’ Positive Ageing group. When in-person volunteering was not possible due to the pandemic, Polaris team members participated in Blackfriars’ phone befriending program and raised funds for the charity through our star fundraiser.

Thanks to the easing pandemic situation, Polaris was able to return to in-person volunteering in February. For our return to Blackfriars, eight members of the Polaris team served a meal to members of Blackfriars’ Crusoe Group, comprised of blind and partially sighted individuals. The team made options of cottage pie and salmon served with mashed potato and mixed vegetables, followed by fruit salad, apple crumble, and custard.

While the team embarked on preparing the meal, members of the Positive Ageing group took part in a seated yoga class led by Sarah Denver, Marketing Manager. After the meal, the next activity was a quiz, hosted by Head of Standards Steve Waller. The quiz challenged the teams to 40 general knowledge questions on entertainment, history, geography, and more. The highest scoring teams received chocolates as prizes.

Polaris looks forward to returning to Blackfriars again soon. We encourage readers to visit Blackfriars Settlement’s website to discover how you can support this worthy charity.
