Vivek Banga featured on Insurance Age’s Double Indemnity Podcast

Our Managing Director, Vivek Banga, was recently featured on Insurance Age’s Double Indemnity Podcast, where he discussed the vital role Polaris plays within the UK insurance industry and the continued evolution of digital trading.

Joining hosts Stuart Reid and Toby Clegg, Vivek explored how Polaris was established more than 30 years ago through industry collaboration to support digital trading across both personal and commercial lines.

He described circa 2015 as a “tipping point” for digital trading, when the industry conversation shifted from “why do digital trading?” to “why not?”.

Vivek highlighted how insurers are becoming increasingly adept at digitising complex risks, with the boundaries of digital trading continuing to be pushed. However, he believes there is still significant potential for further progress, with the commercial insurance sector only “scratching at the surface” of what can be achieved.

The discussion also explored the challenges and opportunities created by UK’s position as a first mover in digital trading of insurance.

Vivek discussed Polaris’ role in supporting the wider market, including our product suite (Standards, ProductWriter, imarket and Live-Chat) and our regularly updated code list of more than 3,000 occupations.

He also shared his views on the extranet versus software house debate and considered whether there is a disconnect between technologists developing digital solutions and practitioners working on the front line with customers.

Alongside the industry discussion, Vivek also reflected on his own journey within the industry over the years.

The podcast provides an insight into how digital trading has evolved over the past three decades and the opportunities that remain as the industry continues to embrace new technology.
