Polaris’ volunteering day at Blackfriars Settlement

Polaris spent the day volunteering with the positive ageing group at Blackfriars Settlement, a charity that supports and uplifts elderly and in-need members of the community. The team of 8 volunteers prepared a meal for 40 of Blackfriars’ members, which consisted of two large cottage pies, salmon, mashed potatoes, and mixed vegetables. The meal was followed by sticky toffee pudding with custard and fruit salad for dessert.

Simon Bloomfield, Head of imarket, hosted several rounds of bingo for the members after their meal, with prizes also provided by Polaris.

ProductWriter Manager David Simpkin, a first-time volunteer, shares his experience at Blackfriars Settlement:

Spending the day with the members and volunteers of the Blackfriars Settlement was a hugely rewarding and enjoyable experience. The members were very welcoming and appreciative of our collective efforts. Preparing a wholesome meal for 40 people in a limited time and with limited space is a challenge but made easier by working well together as a team. Fortunately, I avoided onion dicing duties on this occasion! I am looking forward to visiting again soon.

Supporting Blackfriars since 2019, we are proud of their work in the community, and we look forward to volunteering with them again in the near future. Read about our previous visits to Blackfriars Settlement here.
