Vacuseed Airwand The Vacuseed Airwand uses a hand-held vacuum pen attached to an air compressor to pick up seeds one by one. It has an autoclavable tip that is specially selected for Arabidopsis thaliana seeds. The tip is attached to a filter to ensure that any stray genetically modified material is trapped to prevent contamination. The filter is also autoclavable and both are disposable. The Airwand generates a vacuum with a generator based on the Venturi effect (inside the small white box shown in the photo). This generator is powered by compressed air, so no electrical supply is needed, enabling the Airwand to be used in areas such as greenhouses that don't necessarily have a convenient electrical supply or which may be too wet to use an electrical supply. |
